It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure.

"When art critics get together they talk about Form and Structure and Meaning. When artists get together they talk about where you can buy cheap turpentine".

"The Peace King" 2020

King Tāwhiao, the second Māori king (1860–1894)

As Floss said, it was the most expressive artwork she has ever completed. It took 2 years to complete to have the exact result that she wanted. Every line on his face has been meticulously and slowly draped with oil paint. This extremely large painting is an absolute work of love that the artist believes she will never again have the time to undertake such a huge project.

The "Tell-Tail Heart" of veins and arteries is embedded throughout this painting. Limited edition signed prints are available but the original work cannot yet be parted with.

David Attenborough painting

Sir David Attenborough, 2021

This artwork entitled "I tried" represents the inner emotions to the darker side of disappointment. Floss Fleury who highly respects Sir David Attenborough and everything he has tried to do for the planet we all live on, shows in this painting an underline disappointment in humanity's inability to think past the life span of ones self.

Albert Einstein, 2021

This portrait represents the exploding mind one of the greatest and most influential scientists of all time. "The Big Bang" The idea that the universe had a beginning was first suggested by the general theory of relativity, completed by Albert Einstein in 1916. His equations told him that the universe could not stay static: "It had to either expand or contract".

The Sleepwalking Woman, 2021

This self portrait represents the individual feelings of the artist. Titled "The Sleepwalking Woman" after a song she wrote about the deception and perception of a sleepwalking woman being found in the wrongs mans bed. Floss's idea and observation is that people are often judged too quickly and that the judgements are most always wrong with people being misled and guided to incorrect assumptions by nothing more than their own insecurity.

Nick Cave, 2020

Quite simply the artists favorite artist! Nick Cave's music has been a staple chorus of noise both beautiful & grating that has followed her throughout her music career. Nick Cave is often the background sound dripping down soulfully through the many long hours of painting in exile from the world.

Captain Cook, 2023

Europeans were aware of Tā moko when Captain James Cook made his first voyage to New Zealand in 1769. Captain Cook commented on the beauty of the Māori's markings: 'The marks in general are spirals drawn with great nicety and even elegance.' The cultral signifinance of a traditional style Tā moko on the face of Captain James Cook is at the least controversial and possibly quite offensive but the artist wanted to show a blend of cultural extremes.

The British colonized New Zealand in 1841, the Tā moko was discouraged or banned as a cultural form. The Tohunga Supression Act was eventually repealed in 1962. Since the 1990s, there has been a resurgence of the practice of Tā moko for both men and women as a sign of their cultural Māori identity.

Nick Bravewolf, 2022

The lovable, vibrant and very cool warrior Nick Bravewolf, was a local Waihekean icon (Indian Nick) He sadly passed away on Monday 5th of December 2022. The artist Floss Fleury was fortunate enough to have given him a framed print of this portrait shortly before his death. With this painting, she wanted to portray the love everybody has for him and how we all want his memory and colorful image to live on.

Māori Woman with Moko & Top Hat, 2020

This artwork is based on a photo of an unknown Māori woman taken around the 1890's with a traditional chin moko, a top hat and wearing a very European dress. What stood out to the artist and her desire for doing this painting is that her expression is one of extreme sadness. Through her eyes we are reminded of a tumultuous time in New Zealand history.

Eyesolation, 2023

This artwork is very different from all other paintings, the final effect was achieved with the use of old, dead or rough brushes stabbing the canvas. Portrayed here is a time during covid when fear and mistrust caused people to cross the road in avoidance of happy healthy people...... just in case!
